What is PantherFIT?

SpinningPantherFIT group fitness classes are a fun, motivating, and challenging way to fit exercise into your daily schedule. A great alternative or compliment to any workout regime, our non-credit classes are led by highly skilled and nationally certified instructors. Generally, one hour in length, our cardio/strength and mind/body classes are a reflection of some of the latest trends in group fitness. Spinning®, Yoga, Pilates, Kickboxing, Ultimate Core, Hip Hop, Step, Zumba® and HardBodies™ are just a few of the classes you will find taking place in the Rec Center's Gold and Blue Fitness Rooms.

To accommodate the busy lifestyles of our participants, we offer a bountiful schedule of classes throughout the morning, afternoon, evening and on weekends. The group fitness schedule does change each semester and is developed based upon feedback from participants as well as instructor availability. Classes are offered throughout each of the Fall, Spring and Summer semesters with few exceptions during national holidays, and university breaks & closings.

FIU students and Recreation Members alike are encouraged to take part in classes; anyone with an activated FIU ID may sign up for a class. Since all our instructors require an advanced level of training, skill, and mastery, a $1 class fee is charged for all classes. For those who frequently attend our group fitness classes, we offer Discount Savings Passes and punchcards for purchase at the Membership Desk.

Featured Instructor

Nakreshia Causey

Nakreshia Causey is originally from Pensacola, Florida, but currently resiudes in Hollywood. She graduated from the University of South Florida with her Bachelors Degree in Criminology and a Master's Degree in Exercise Science. She has worked in the fitness industry for 8 years. Her experience includes titles such as Fitness Sales Associate, Group Fitness Instructor, Personal Trainer, Group Fitness Coordinator, Fitness Graduate Assistant, and Fitness Director. She has worked for numerous commercial gyms, corporate wellness centers, university fitness centers, and community recreation centers.

Dance Fitness is Nakreshia's passion. In January of 2012, she started her own business called "CardioFunk Hip Hop Dance Fitness", which she currently teaches here at FIU. Her goal is to help individuals realize that fitness and wellness are an essential part to a "Happy Healthy Life".

How to register for a class

Know the type of class you want. Sign in anytime during the day of the class, but remember space is on a first come - first served basis. You may only sign in for yourself.

All classes cost $1 - this fee is to cover the cost of the instructor.
