Recreation Services encourages safe and healthy bicycling. This site will provide a central location to learn more about safe biking, find out about local rides and events, and direct you to local and national resources on bicycling. If you're not a rider, this information might provide you information and resources to encourage you to do so.

Take a look at Florida Bicycling Street Smarts: Riding Confidently, Legally and Safely. This free download (click here) is available from the Florida Department of Transportation and talks about topics such as riding through intersections, steering out of trouble and riding in rain and darkness.

REC SERVICES AND PARKING DEPARTMENTS CONTRIBUTE TO INFLATION
Recreation Services and the Department of Parking & Transportation have partnered to bring new bicycle air pumps to a bike rack near you. Purchased from Dero Bike Racks, these heavy-duty air pumps are in the process of being installed on racks around the MMC and BBC campuses for the convenience of FIU's bicyclists. Find them now on various campus bike racks at MMC, the Engineering Center, and BBC.
BIKE RACKS
FIU's Modesto Maidique Campus has over 80 bike racks on campus, providing almost 400 bike parking spaces. The majority are the "U" racks, which are achored into a concrete slab and typically located on the sides of buildings. Frame-style ground racks are located where U racks are not practical , and low-profile ground sleeve racks, located near residence halls, permit clear views.

BICYCLES RULE!
Miami Critical Mass is an event held on the LAST FRIDAY of every month where bicyclists and, less frequently, skateboarders, inline skaters, roller skaters and other self-propelled commuters take to the streets en masse.
Miami Critical Mass is not an "us vs. them" ride, it is not anti-car, it is not a protest ride, this is a ride that celebrates bicycles, encourages cycling & reminds drivers that they must share the road. There are a lot of new riders who just recently joined the group and we need to remind them of this. This is supposed to be a fun ride, you're encouraged to smile, wave at passerby's, ring your bells & have a good time.
Participants are to keep a moderate pace & ride safely. The ride keeps getting larger and is beginning to stretch out, it's very important that the group stays together and closes any gaps, it makes corking easier and the ride much smoother for cyclists, motorists and pedestrians alike. The average speed is ideally 12-15mph. For more on Miami Critical Mass, click here. (This text credited to Miami Bike Scene)
Cyclists ride at their own risk and assume responsibility for their own safety!
